Toadstool's Name

in About
Much like a toadstool that returns decomposing plants and animals to the soil, turning them into nutrients that feed new life (What is a Toadstool? A Clear and Neutral Explanation - PlantNative.org), our namesake is a reflection of our commitment to give back to our community and our environment. We have invested in educating ourselves and our industry partners on the benefits of renewable energy.
Toadstool Land Services is heavily invested in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage, working for industry giants such as Exxon and Denbury (Low Carbon Solutions | ExxonMobil). In addition, we assisted Kindle Energy with title cleanup to move forward on a large power plant in Iberville Parish, Louisiana that will use natural gas and carbon-free hydrogen to generate electricity for five rural utility cooperatives (Kindle Energy Breaks Ground on $750 Million Power Station in Iberville Parish - LED | Louisiana Economic Development).
Richard was also involved with Standard Lithium's project in South Arkansas that involves extracting lithium from brine water already being produced by several brine companies in the area (Arkansas Smackover :: Standard Lithium Ltd.).
For all these reasons, it makes sense that Richard would name the company "Toadstool Land Services". However...
The truth is much simpler. Toadstool is a play on Richard's nickname given to him by his friends at a young age. Because Richard's last name is "Murff", he was given the nickname "Papasmurff" while he was attending Acadian Middle School in Lafayette, Louisiana. When Richard decided to start his own land firm, he decided that "Toadstool" was fitting, since the Smurfs lived in toadstools (cue the Paul Harvey outro).
