Introduction to Land Services

Our history begins back in 2001, when Richard responded to a want-ad in The Daily Advertiser. Bradley Broussard Land Services, Inc. was looking for an office runner and IT administrator. The only requirement was the candidate must be a sophomore in college. Since he had one semester completed back in 1990 right after graduating high school, and was almost finished his second semester this time around after going back to college in the fall of 2000, he sent in his resume. Brad took a chance on Richard, even though at 28 years old Richard wasn't the typical candidate that Brad hired for that position.

Continuous innovation and transformation

Between 2005 and 2006, Richard spent the majority of his time developing a database of Oil & Gas instruments owned by Brad and his partner, Gene Huggs. Brad wanted to map the leases in this database of over 200,000 instruments. Richard developed an algorithm for mapping the data and with the help of an outsourced CAD / GIS team, they succeeded in mapping the leases, units and wells for 14 Parishes in North Louisiana

Further development

In 2006, one of the largest online Oil & Gas data providers approached us with their idea of mapping lease data on a large scale. Richard showed them one of the "SectionCheck" maps they had been working to develop. The salesman was so impressed he immediately went to his boss and told them they had to see what SectionCheck was doing with automated mapping. Richard had written software in C++ and AutoLISP languages to extract data from the database, parse it, and map it. An entire Parish of historical and active leases along with oil and gas units could be mapped in less than two hours!

Company acquisition

In 2008, SectionCheck was purchased by that large online Oil & Gas data provider, just before the Haynesville Shale boom. That data and those maps became integral to our office while acquiring leases in the Haynesville Shale for Petrohawk, predecessor to BHP.

COVID

In 2020, as with everyone else in the world, our office faced a new challenge. As we always do, we found ways to keep busy, diversifying into real estate acquisitions and working on several new business models.
