Richard Murff, Jr., RPL
Richard began his career as an Oil & Gas / Energy landman with Bradley Broussard Land Services, Inc. in April 2001. In August 2003, he was promoted to Project Manager working on various projects around several states, including, but not limited to, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota and Pennsylvania. His 20+ years of experience in the oil and gas landman industry includes title research and abstracting for both mineral and surface ownership, leasing, mineral history research, parcel mapping, title curative, and Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage experience.
Mr. Murff led the development of SectionCheck.com from a simple lease database, to an online subscription database, and finally into an automated mapping system that provides visual representations of leased tracts of land instantly and accurately, saving months of research and tens of thousands of dollars in costs for oil and gas exploration companies, large and small. Soon after the development was complete, SectionCheck.com was sold to one of the largest online oil and gas database companies.
Recently, he oversaw the research and closing of a mineral and surface abstract covering just over 200 acres, approximately 30 undivided mineral interest owners, and resulting in more than 20 volumes of documents. In addition, he completed a working interest abstract, supplemental abstract and secured a voluntary unit agreement over the same acreage.
Another recent project involved the identification of over 150 heirs to property in South Louisiana for the acquisition of fee interests. This project involved unique challenges as the property was acquired in the late 1800's and early 1900's and subsequently title passed to multiple heirs, generally without successions or wills, following Louisiana's death & heirship laws. Many of the family members did not speak to, or often didn't even know, each other. Richard and his team of landmen were able to identify and locate all but one heir to the property.
He has mapped tens of thousands of leases, parcels, conservation units and various other entities. He frequently sources data from various industry standard sources, including, but not limited to, United States Bureau of Land Management, United States Geological Society, United States Department of Agriculture, National Agriculture Imagery Program, SONRIS, Atlas, and many more federal, state and local government authorities, as well as reputable third-party data providers, such as Enverus, Real Estate Portal USA and more. He has mapped various projects in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Dakota, Montana, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, New York, West Virginia and Alabama.
Richard has experience with iLandman (P2 Energy), Enverus, AutoCAD Map 3D (various versions) and ESRI ArcGIS. He has worked on projects around the United States, including abstracting and title, title curative, leasing, mineral histories and conservation research, seismic permitting, due diligence, and more.
Richard is married to Stacey Boudreaux Murff and together they reside in Lafayette. Although Richard was born in Mississippi, he has lived in Lafayette since he was four years old and considers Lafayette his home. Richard and Stacey have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.
